60 Austrian mountain huts have won the strict seal of approval awarded by the Austrian Alpine Association. To qualify, huts must have their energy, water, sewage, waste and recycling systems vetted. Special consideration is also given to measures such as imposing a smoking ban, sound-proofing, looking after the hut’s environs and encouraging visitors to consider the environment, too.
